Akram completed his National Diploma: Engineering Civil from M.L. Sultan Technikon. He went on to join Moore Spence Jones as a Design Engineering Technician 1994. At the end of 1998, he completed his Bachelor of Technology: Engineering Civil (Water) also from M.L. Sultan Technikon and was promoted to Senior Engineering Design Technologist by Moore Spence Jones. He continued in this role when MSJ was acquired by Kwezi V3 Engineers in 1999 and gained valuable experience at KV3 until October 2004. Akram is a founding director of MCE, established in November 2004.

He has been registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa since 10 November 2003. He is a Technologist Member of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering and a Member of the Institute of Professional Technologists.

Akram has experience in the following areas: Design of civil infrastructure (industrial, commercial, institutional, high end residential and social housing); bulk earthworks, contract administration, project management, construction monitoring, water pressure pipelines, reservoirs, catchment studies, sewer pumpstations. He has vast experience as a liaison between different service providers on projects.

He is a keen fisherman and enjoys playing squash or a round of golf in his spare time. Akram is actively involved with community social work.

In addition to his engineering qualifications, Akram is an A+ Certified computer technician. He is certified as a Competent Engineer for the National Home Builder Registration Council (NHBRC). Akram has been registered as a Commissioner of Oaths by the Department of Justice and Correctional Services.
